Getting to Know: Paris Baguette
Nestled in the vibrant borough of Queens, New York, you'll find Meghna Negandhi and her Paris Baguette establishments, serving as a focal point for nurturing lasting community connections. Our conversation with Meghna Negandhi offers a glimpse into her world of culinary entrepreneurship and an unwavering commitment to strengthening local ties.
Savoring Exquisite Flavors
Before embarking on her culinary journey, Meghna spent a decade leading operations at an advertising agency. The transition from the corporate world to the food industry may seem drastic, but it was driven by an innate desire to forge deeper connections within the community. In her words, "The food industry has always fascinated me because it allows you to connect with the community... you can turn a bad day into a good one by offering some exceptional food.""I was always interested in the food business; I'm a foodie myself, so that's what interested me in getting into this business," shared Meghna. This marks the beginning of our exploration, where the owner's love for food takes center stage in her decision to become a part of Paris Baguette. But what drew Meghna to Paris Baguette specifically? The allure of their pastries and savory sandwiches, distinctive to the brand, was undeniable.
"I love eating. I love dining out, and so I like to eat good food, so that's what really got me into it," she says but it was also the inviting ambiance that made Paris Baguette unique. "A lot of good cakes and really nice coffees, like a nice place where you can sit down, have a conversation and be with somebody."
Navigating Challenges with Resilience
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Meghna faced unparalleled challenges, but resilience and unwavering community support saw them through. Following a brief closure due to team members contracting the virus, the owner pivoted to a delivery-only model to ensure that the community could continue relishing Paris Baguette's offerings during trying times.
But her commitment to the community extends far beyond the confines of the kitchen. They collaborate with local schools, offering incentives such as free cake slices to exceptional students. Furthermore, surplus food is thoughtfully donated to organizations like "9 Million Reasons," reducing waste and extending a helping hand to those in need.“I felt really blessed during that time of crisis that at least I had a means to be able to service in whatever little way I could,” said Meghna. “You want to be connected as not only just a business, but as a place where people will come together, have a good time, enjoy a laugh, or have a coffee.”
For those contemplating a leap from the confines of the traditional nine-to-five world into the realm of food entrepreneurship, the owner offers candid yet uplifting advice. She acknowledges the challenges but underscores the importance of passion and dedication. In her own words, "If you're truly passionate about something and determined to pursue it, just go for it."
A Flavorful Future Awaits
As we look to the future, Paris Baguette's owner envisions further expansion within New York City, all while remaining steadfastly committed to the borough of Queens. Meghna transcends her role as a mere purveyor of pastries; she is a testament to the enduring power of food in uniting people and creating cherished moments within the community.
