Starting out of their Brooklyn apartment, owners Helena and Bob took great inspiration from Helena’s baba, Julia. Julia arrived to America in 1969 and brought with her recipes that have been passed down from generations. The only difference was that the ingredients on hand were a bit different than the ones she would find in her homeland of Slovakia. Thus, the “Baba’s Potato” flavored pierogi was created, which incorporates American cheese with potatoes as the filling. This meddling of the old and new is the foundation of this little shop in Brooklyn. On the menu, you will find the a variety of traditional and nontraditional fillings as well as a handful of innovative dessert options. We also have vegan pierogi options. At the restaurant, we always prepare the pierogies fresh to order, never frozen, just like at baba’s house. When ordering frozen pierogies, we hope you feel the same sense of comfort, love, and deliciousness as you would at Baba’s Pierogies. Over the past 6 years, Baba’s Pierogies has been featured on Eater, Thrilist, PureWow, NY1, News12, ABC’s “The Chew” to name a few.
